Working With Gold Coast City Council

Carrara Stadium hosts community sports, training sessions, and evening events year-round. Gold Coast City Council needed reliable, bright lighting for sports visibility while creating professional event atmosphere for spectators. We designed a dual-purpose system meeting both requirements. Sports lighting demands precision. Players and spectators need consistent, shadow-free illumination across the entire playing surface. We specified high-efficiency LED panels mounted on overhead structures, providing brightness needed for training, matches, and spectator events. The challenge was balancing sports functionality with event aesthetics. Bare sports lighting can feel harsh and institutional. We incorporated subtle colour temperature tuning and peripheral accent lighting so evening matches felt like genuine community events rather than industrial sessions. Event operations were critical. Council staff needed simple controls—on/off for basic operation, dimming for pre-match events and award presentations. The system had to be operable by non-technical staff without requiring a lighting engineer. Thermal management was essential. LED equipment in stadium environments must be robust and reliable. We specified industrial-grade units with proper ventilation, thermal monitoring, and failover capability. Coverage was uniform. Sports fields demand consistent light levels—dark corners are dangerous and unfair to athletes. We designed mounting positions to eliminate shadows and create even 500+ lux illumination across the field. Glare control for spectators was equally important. We used precise optics and mounting angles to direct light onto the field surface while minimising spillover into spectator areas. Maintenance was designed in. LED units were accessible for cleaning without field shutdown. Council staff received troubleshooting training to keep the system running without expensive service calls. Carrara Stadium became a hub for community sports and evening events. The lighting played a genuine role in transforming the venue from functional training ground to community gathering place.
