Working With Gympie Regional Council

Gympie Regional Council hosts annual civic ceremonies (ANZAC services, citizenship ceremonies, community memorials) that benefit from intentional, respectful lighting design. Previous ceremonies relied on generic floodlights that felt harsh and impersonal. We designed a flexible ceremonial lighting system: eight intelligent LED fixtures networked on DMX, positioned to light ceremony platforms, audience areas, and key focal points (memorials, flagpoles, speaker platforms) with warm, low-intensity light (2200K to 3000K, 30–50% intensity). The critical element was timing: for dawn ceremonies (ANZAC services), the lights gradually increase from 5 AM to 6:30 AM as the sun rises, matching the natural dawn transition. For evening ceremonies, the lights come on 15 minutes before the ceremony, creating a sense of intentional gathering and respect. The system was designed to feel invisible: participants don't consciously notice the lighting; they just experience the ceremony space as well-considered and respectful. That's the mark of ceremonial lighting. By January 2026, Gympie Regional Council had used the system for four ceremonies with uniformly positive feedback. Participants specifically highlighted the "thoughtful" and "respectful" atmosphere that the lighting created—which tells us we'd achieved the primary objective: lighting that honours community moments rather than overwhelming them.
