Working With Gympie Regional Council

The Gympie Music Muster is Australia's longest-running country music festival—three days, six stages, 8,000+ attendees. Gympie Regional Council needed unified lighting design across all stages, consistent colour language, and the technical flexibility to support everything from acoustic sets to full band performances. We designed a tiered approach. The main stage got full intelligent moving-light coverage: sixteen intelligent fixtures on three layers (backlight, sidelight, key light), capable of dramatic colour and intensity changes. Secondary stages got simplified rigs (eight fixtures each) on the same colour palette so the festival felt visually cohesive despite the decentralised layout. The crucial element: a single wireless DMX network connecting all stages to a central console. Our operator could see all six stages simultaneously and coordinate lighting across the entire festival in real-time—so a transition from one stage's act to another felt seamless from the audience perspective. We also designed dedicated lighting for the festival's VIP hospitality areas, merchandise zones, and food vendors—each with intentional colour and intensity to suit its function without overpowering the main event. On the night, the Muster sold out for the first time in five years. Attendee feedback specifically highlighted the "world-class" production value that the unified lighting approach created. Artists reported feeling well-lit and supported, which influences their perception of the event's professionalism and their willingness to return in future years. Gympie Regional Council has engaged Lume Hire as the Muster's lighting designer for a three-year contract, making this a cornerstone partnership.
