Working With Moreton Bay Regional Council
Moreton Bay's waterfront parks are regional assets: Redcliffe Foreshore, Settlement Cove, Sandgate Beach, and various secondary parks. They're beautiful during the day. But in the evening, they became inactive—not because there was no demand, but because there was no infrastructure supporting evening use. The council asked us to design lighting that would enable safe, attractive evening use across all their waterfront parks. The brief was practical: pathways needed to be safe, gathering areas needed to feel welcoming, and the lighting couldn't overwhelm the natural character. We designed a distributed system: warm LED pathway lighting (2700K) throughout all parks, accent lighting on key features and gathering points, and modular systems for event support at popular locations. The colour palette was consistently warm to create unified feeling across the region. Installation was phased over six months to spread costs and coordinate with existing maintenance schedules. By November, all major parks had full evening lighting infrastructure. The impact was immediate. Evening use increased 40% across all parks. Families came for evening walks. Fitness enthusiasts came for evening exercise. Couples came for sunset and evening strolls. The parks had transformed from daytime-only destinations into 24-hour community assets. The council measured improved safety metrics (more lighting = more eyes on public space), improved community satisfaction, and expanded park utilization. The lighting infrastructure had essentially doubled the effective capacity of the parks without any expansion work.
