Gala dinners

Lighting that gives a gala its sense of occasion

A gala lives or dies on atmosphere. We design room washes, table warmth and stage focus as one programmed look — timed to your run sheet, rehearsed before doors.

The room

Making a ballroom feel like an occasion

Most galas happen in ballrooms and function centres that host three events a week, and guests can feel that familiarity the moment they walk in — unless lighting rewrites the room. Deep uplighting around the perimeter dissolves the venue's everyday look; warm pin-spotting or ambient layers over tables make the settings and florals glow the way the stylist intended; and a defined stage wash keeps the podium the room's natural focal point all night. Colour does heavy lifting here: rich tones matched to your event theme or cause — think deep blues for a corporate gala, warm golds for an anniversary dinner — carry instantly in every photo. It's the same transformation logic as our broader corporate lighting work, tuned for the most formal night on the calendar.

The run sheet

Programmed to the minute, rehearsed before doors

A gala is a produced event, and its lighting should be too. We build DMX-programmed scenes around your run sheet: bright and welcoming for pre-dinner drinks, warm and focused through service, full attention to the stage for speeches and presentations, then an energy lift when the band or DJ takes over. Scene changes trigger on cue — by our operator, your MC or the AV desk — so transitions feel produced rather than fumbled. We coordinate directly with your AV company, venue events team and stylist, and for larger galas we're in the room for the rehearsal, because the difference between good and seamless is one walkthrough. All fixtures are tested and tagged with compliance paperwork supplied to the venue as standard.

Beyond ballrooms

Marquee galas and venue takeovers

Some of the best galas we light happen outside traditional ballrooms — marquee dinners on resort lawns, warehouse takeovers, long-table charity events under the stars. These venues demand more from lighting because there's no house rig to lean on: we bring the ambient layer, the stage focus and the table warmth, often anchored by festoon or a fairy canopy that gives the temporary space a ceiling and a soul. All outdoor gear is IP64 weather-rated, and we handle power planning including generator specs for off-grid sites. We deliver galas across the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Byron Bay and the Northern Rivers — send your venue and run sheet draft through the contact page and we'll quote within 24 hours.

Frequently asked

Yes — that's central to the design. We program scenes for arrival, dinner, speeches and entertainment, triggered on cue from your run sheet. Transitions are rehearsed, not improvised.

As standard. We coordinate control, power and rigging with your AV supplier and the venue's events team directly, so the production comes together as one system rather than competing kits.

Precisely — DMX fixtures tune to any colour. Send the styling brief or a hex code and the room will match the invitations, not approximate them.

Frequently — lawn marquees and open-air long-table dinners are some of our favourite briefs. All outdoor fixtures are IP64 weather-rated and we plan power properly, including generators where needed.

Uplighting-led ballroom designs typically start around $1,200; fully programmed rooms with stage focus and scene control run $2,500 to $6,000 depending on scale. Quotes within 24 hours.
