Technical lighting in service of the art

Lighting design and production support for artists, galleries and public art — the technical partner that makes an artwork read the way its maker intended.

For artists

A production partner who speaks both languages

Plenty of lighting companies can power a fixture; far fewer can sit with an artist and talk about how a work should feel before talking about how it will be wired. We've spent years inside the festival and immersive art scene — through The Boogie Collective and Immersive Structures A/V — working alongside sculptors, textile artists, projection artists and collectives to light their work for festivals, galleries and public commissions. Sometimes that means precise, invisible illumination of a physical piece; sometimes light is the medium itself and we're engineering the artwork's nervous system. Either way, the art leads and the technology follows. See the broader creative installations practice this sits within.

The toolkit

From museum-subtle to festival-loud

The technical range covers whatever the work demands. Static pieces get precise, colour-accurate illumination with clean beam control so the sculpture reads and the fixtures disappear. Kinetic and light-based works get DMX and pixel-level control, programmed sequences, and generative behaviour built in TouchDesigner where a piece needs to evolve or respond to its audience. Projection layers through Resolume can add moving imagery to physical works — a step toward our architectural projection territory. For outdoor commissions we spec IP64-rated components, engineer mounting against wind and public interaction, and ensure every electrical element is tested and tagged for public-space compliance. Budgets get honest treatment: we'll always tell you the version of the idea that fits the funding.

Where it shows

Festivals, galleries, councils and commissions

Art lighting work turns up everywhere the region shows art after dark: festival art trails and sculpture zones, gallery openings and temporary exhibitions, council-funded activations of parks and laneways, and private commissions on hinterland properties. We handle the production spine — transport, install, power, safe rigging, operation through the season and packdown — so artists and curators can stay focused on the work itself. Grant-funded projects get documentation and compliance paperwork done properly, which funding bodies notice. Based between the Gold Coast and the Northern Rivers, we service Brisbane, Byron Bay and everywhere between. If you're an artist, curator or producer with a work that needs light, start the conversation through the contact page — and if the project sits inside a bigger event, our festival lighting covers the rest of the site.

Frequently asked

Constantly — it's some of our favourite work. We join projects at concept stage or later, and we're comfortable being the quiet technical partner behind someone else's vision.

Yes — we provide the quotes, compliance documentation, test-and-tag records and public-safety engineering that funding bodies and councils require.

Often, yes — retrofitting DMX control, pixel LED or sensor-driven behaviour into an existing piece is a well-worn path for us. Bring us the work and the idea.

From one night to a full season. Long-run outdoor works get weatherproof components, secure enclosures and periodic checks as part of the package.

It ranges as widely as the work does. Share the concept and the budget envelope and we'll design honestly to it — including telling you where money is and isn't worth spending.
