Creative installations

Lighting that responds to the crowd

Motion, sound and touch-responsive installations built in TouchDesigner — light that notices people and answers back, for activations, festivals and venues.

Why interactive

Participation beats spectacle every time

People photograph beautiful lighting; they queue for lighting that responds to them. Interactive installations put the audience inside the control loop — walk past and colour follows you, wave and the ceiling ripples, sing and the room answers in light. For brand activations that shift dwell time from seconds to minutes, festival zones that become word-of-mouth destinations, and venues wanting a signature moment, interactivity is the highest-leverage move in event lighting. We design the interaction first — what a guest does, what the light does back, and why that loop is satisfying enough to repeat — then build the technology around it. It sits at the playful end of our creative installations practice.

How it works

Sensors in, TouchDesigner in the middle, light out

Under the hood, every interactive piece is a sensing problem, a logic problem and an output problem. We use camera and depth tracking for full-body motion, audio analysis for sound-driven pieces, and physical sensors — pressure, proximity, touch surfaces — where a tactile trigger suits the concept. TouchDesigner sits in the middle, turning that input into behaviour, and drives the output across pixel-mapped LED, DMX fixtures and projection through Resolume. Because the whole chain is ours, latency stays low enough that the response feels instant — the single detail that separates delightful from broken. The same control stack powers our projection mapping work, so interactive and mapped surfaces combine happily in one piece.

Built for crowds

Reliable through a full event, not a demo

An interactive piece that works in the workshop and falls over in front of a crowd is worse than no piece at all. We build for the realities of event nights: sensing calibrated for hundreds of bodies rather than one tester, graceful fallback behaviours so the piece stays beautiful even if a sensor drops, hardware rigged and cabled to event standard, and every component tested and tagged. Outdoor deployments use IP64-rated gear and weather-protected sensing positions. We install, calibrate on site, operate through the event and pack down after — across the Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Brisbane and the Northern Rivers. Bring us the audience and the outcome you want via the contact page and we'll return a concept and quote within 24 hours. For non-interactive statement pieces, see custom lighting installations.

Frequently asked

Motion and body tracking, sound reactivity, touch surfaces, proximity triggers and combinations of all four. We match the interaction type to your audience and space.

Yes — we design and calibrate for crowd conditions, not single users, and build fallback behaviours so the piece stays engaging even at peak density.

Engagement counts and interaction metrics can be logged where the concept suits it. We'll flag what's possible — and what's respectful — during design.

Simple sound-reactive zones can turn around in a couple of weeks; bespoke sensor-driven concepts want four to eight. Share your date early and we'll design to it.

Yes — an operator monitors and tunes the piece live for the duration. Interactive work earns its keep when it's running perfectly, so we don't drop and leave.
